ELIZABETH SMART: EMPOWER KIDS, BE ALERT AND VIGILANT

By Bernadette Verzosa, ParentsPost.com

Elizabeth Smart hopes what happened to her does not happen to anyone else. She is an abduction survivor and she is courageously sharing her story with parents to prevent other cases of missing children.

Smart was kidnapped from her bedroom in her Salt Lake City, Utah home in 2002. She was 14 years old and was held prisoner for nine months.

Today, Smart is on a campaign to empower children through education and encourage everyone to be alert and vigilant. She is teaming up with Tomball Regional Medical Center’s Healthy Woman program to bring her message to Houston families.

“Elizabeth Smart is a remarkable woman. Her story needs to be heard by all,” says Kim Hanley, Healthy Woman marketing Coordinator. “She has overcome extreme adversity and did not allow her past to dictate her future, which is a great lesson to learn.”

Smart is also an advocate of the child empowerment program called radKIDS which Tomball Regional Medical Center now offers. RadKids teaches children how to immediately deal with potential danger and how to handle aggression, bullying and violence.

Elizabeth Smart’s Houston engagement marks the Healthy Woman program’s first anniversary. The series offers women fun and educational events. “Women tend to worry about everything and everyone else besides themselves. The Healthy Woman program reminds women that you need to worry about yourself, and keep yourself healthy so you can take care of your family properly,” says Hanley.

Past Health Woman events have included: a fashion show for breast cancer awareness, dance classes with diabetes prevention tips called “Divas for Diabetes,” and a wine tasting titled “Red Wine and Dark Chocolate for a Healthy Heart”

Dolly Dance Days is a mother’s day out summer camp for children ages 3, 4, and 5.  The camp is designed for our young dancers to be able to explore the wonderful world of dance while having fun.  Students will be allowed to bring (one) of their favorite dolls to watch class time.  We incorporate different themes each day such as Disney Princesses, Angelina Ballerina, Tutu’s and Tiaras.  Students will learn introduction to the 5 basic ballet positions of the feet and arms and how to move thru them with music.  In addition to ballet and basic tap, each fun filled day will include additional activities to encourage rhythm, coordination, musicality, strength, stretching, tumbling, creativity and imagination.  Come Join us for CAMP!

Dolly Dance Days will occur the weeks of June 17th - 21th and July 8th - 12th, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00AM to 11:30 AM.  Tuition is $100 per week.  Parents will be able to enjoy a short performance at the end of the week to see what their little dancers have learned.  We just ask that students be potty trained in order to attend.

Its a car seat!! How hard could it be?? Ask any parent.... harder than it looks!   There is a lot to know about how to choose the correct one for the child and how to install it correctly.  4 out of 5 are used incorrectly.  Take the time to speak to an expert, it could make all the difference.  This is the one thing you don't want to assume you  are doing correctly.

I recently discovered a product by Benefit called "POREfessional".  It's used to minimize the appearance of large pores on your face, and it really works well!!  I put it on under my makeup and it makes a huge difference, helping my skin to look smooth and silky.
